The Museum of Modern Art featured the trench coat in its recent ‘Items: Is Fashion Modern?’ exhibit – a curated collection of iconic pieces that define past, present and future cultures. Helmut Lang’s cotton-canvas version stays true to the style’s utilitarian roots with its structured silhouette, polished hardware and flap pockets, but the extra long glossy belt adds a cool contemporary spin. The loose fit makes it easy to layer over shirts and chunky sweaters alike.
