Three Stages of Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue occurs when a person is having a poor nutrition and chronic stress. It causes the adrenal glands not to produce sufficient number of steroid hormones.

There are three stages of adrenal fatigue. The first stage is called the Alarm situation, your body’s response to stress has an increased amount of adrenal activity. After this you body goes into a recovery case that lasts about 48 hours. The second is Resistance stage, the adrenals will lose it’s ability to respond. It can last from months up to 20 years. The prolonged alarm reaction starts as a hyperadrenia which leads to a hypoadrenia, the last stage also known as Exhaustion stage. A total collapse of body functions may happen in this stage that is why a person can’ t resist stress anymore. The person’s mental and physical resources are suffering heavily.

A person can determine what stage is he/she now by taking laboratory tests in saliva, blood and urine. The most preferred is the saliva test because it can measure the amount of circulating hormones than those binded hormones which can be seen in blood tests.
